The site's focal point is a classic mansion designed in a fairytale style that can host events. Its foundation is bluestone, and its walls are made of Oregon lumber that is at least a century old and salvaged from Newmarket's auction houses. In December of 1995, while the vineyard was first being formed, the first vines were planted. Wine production began in 1999, with initial shipments going mostly to domestic restaurants and only a trickle to China and Japan. There is a 20-acre harvesting area in the middle of a forest in a region with 50 wineries and 110 vineyards. The grapes we grow are full of personality. A first round of seeds were planted in 1968, and it was done by two brothers. As a result of their renovations, it became their home. After affixing a crest to the wall of a farmhouse and naming it after Fergusson, they eventually gave the land to him.
During the first commercial harvest of the vineyard, they also opened a community café, and it was their children who would eventually take over the care of the land alongside their mother.
