    About Overnewton Castle Wedding Receptions

    Overnewton Castle was finished by William Taylor in the year 1849. The Scotsman acquired 13,000 good acres of grazing land located west of the Keilor municipality. Taylor built a bluestone colonial home with one storey and no basement. There were a total of six rooms, each of which featured big windows with shutters and extensive verandas.     1937 was the year that Theodore and Agnes Walling commissioned Edna Walling to create their garden. Prior to that, in the late 1920s, the homestead had been expanded. The Edna Walling Gardens in Eurambeen are absolutely breathtaking because of the unusual stone walls, garden rooms, and perennial vegetation that they contain. When Major Thomas Mitchell, the surveyor-general of New South Wales, and his group travelled through this region in 1836 on their way to record tributaries along the Murray River, they were the first European explorers to walk through this particular area. In the 1840s, European colonisation of the region got underway when squatters took control of large swaths of grazing land for agricultural purposes. These squatters brought thousands of animals with them to the region. Eurambeen was the name given to Mt. Cole Station while it was owned by the Campbell brothers, Alexander and Colin, between the years 1840 and 1850. Each of these landowners built dwellings on their properties, although the majority of their land was utilised for grazing animals.

Clarence Earle, an Australian painter, envisioned Chateau Wyuna as his ideal residence and created it accordingly. The first buildings on the site were constructed in the early 1900s inside a loop of Olinda Creek in the bellbird nation over the course of nine years.

    In the beginning, the fireplaces and chimney were constructed. A skilled stonemason was responsible for installing the carefully selected stones in accordance with Earle's design standards. Then, with the assistance of Pat and Jim Clancy, Earle built the primary building from scratch using these materials (who worked on and off with him for six years). The bark was removed from the trees by a six-horse team, and the lumber was brought three miles to the spot, where it was allowed to age for five years before being put to use. The longest logs measure in at sixty feet in length each. The logs were left untouched with the exception of the areas where they were dressed with a broad-axe so that they could fit together correctly.

    The adze produced a textured and smooth finish on all square timbers, such as those used for interior doors. Built-in stringybark furniture makes up the vast majority of what's available. The sole component of the house that was not sourced locally was the marble bathroom, which had a copper faucet for drawing water from the nearby creek. This contemporary convenience was in response to a request made by Earle's close friend and client, Dame Nellie Melba, who was a frequent visitor.
